David Hodes Founder & CEO

David is a qualified System Thinker and Practitioner. He was awarded a National Engineering Scholarship in the UK and attended Imperial College of Science and Technology in London, where he graduated with a BSc Mechanical Engineering. He is certified as a TOC expert with the TOC-ICO (TOC International Certification Organisation) and a consulting member of SOL (Society of Organisational Learning). His passion is in the creation of learning environments where new ideas can take root and deliver rapid tangible benefits to the people and companies he deals with.

David, who founded Ensemble Consulting Group in January 2000, has been applying TOC for more than 15 years in Australia, the USA and South Africa. His working history includes TOC-based implementations in strategy, supply chain and distribution, project management and manufacturing, across a diverse cross-section of industries, such as construction, mining, foods, textiles, clothing, steel, FMCG, electrical goods and software development. His client organisations include Australian icons such as BHP Billiton, Thiess, Commonwealth Bank, Cadbury Schweppes, Coles Group, Smorgon Steel, Sunbeam and Prysmian cables.

Stephen Casey Director

Stephen brings fifteen years of experience in delivering Transformation, Business Optimisation and Capital Projects across the globe.

For 8 years Stephen held senior executive roles in BHP Billiton across Asset and Group Function levels; most recently as the Vice President of Projects for group wide strategic and transformation programs. Prior to this role Stephen was Project Manager and Leadership team member from start to finish of BHP Billiton’s entire 1SAP Program covering every release, every business and every functional process area.

Stephen is passionate about removing complexity from systems, and building focus and clarity to improve the performance of operational businesses and projects. He has extensive experience in process design and optimization for increased growth and improved productivity.

Stephen has delivered many successful programs of work by applying the fundamentals of TOC for Operations, Distribution and Projects. He has also worked extensively with the TOC based Logical Thinking Processes, which provide a foundation for a systems thinking approach to complex problem solving.

He holds MSc in Project Management and BSc in Logistics and International Relations and has served as Australian Army Officer in international military operations.

Angus Grundy Communications Director

Angus has been writing professionally since the last millennium. A head for process led to the editorship of a ‘Time Out’-style European city guide. He then got a taste of organisational design (and politics) at Eurotel (now O2), the Czech Republic’s largest mobile operator. But after two years as interactive media manager, he missed writing and left to go freelance.

Since 2003, he’s worked with branding agencies for big names such as Emaar and Dnata in the Middle East; Logica and Three in the UK; and Aqualand and Kordia in Australia and New Zealand. Direct engagements include Averda, Effortel and Epeus Consulting. His relationship with Ensemble began with rebranding the company through Brandfibre. He liked David so much he joined the Ensemble where he now brings strategy, writing, process and learning together in a satisfying whole.

Based in Prague since 1996, Angus is an evangelist for remote working. Apart from occasional unsociable hours, it’s a remarkably productive way to manage work. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English Literature.

Adail Retamal CTO

Adail is a Brazilian Electronic/Computer Engineer, with more than twenty five years of experience with Software Engineering and Project Management. He has held technical and management positions in industries as diverse as telecommunications, healthcare, education, call/contact centre, insurance, finance, and wholesale/logistics, to name a few.

Since moving to Down Under he enjoys his time as the Head of R&D, architecting and delivering web and mobile apps, integrating platforms and helping clients doing amazing things with technology.

An educator by choice and passion, Adail draws from different disciplines, backgrounds and experiences to give the students the best foundation, tools and thinking processes to learn and practice. Has taught at public and private universities, both for undergraduate and graduate/MBA courses, and at public events and in-company classes. He also is an Agile and Kanban expert.

His love story with the Theory of Constraints (TOC) started in 2003. He is a Certified Critical Chain Project Management Practitioner by the TOCICO.

Besides studying, teaching and browsing bookstores, he loves travelling, meeting people, learning new languages and cultures, watching movies, playing drums, and enjoying life in general.

Phil Immelman

Philip Immelman Director, Professional Services

Philip has substantial experience in both the private and government sectors, having followed a career in the Diplomatic Corps, where he was involved in several areas, especially in the multilateral arena, including the United Nations in New York, the EU and others. He was engaged in project coordination for the Foreign Aid Programme in several African countries. His last posting was as Minister (Plenipotentiary) in the South African Embassy in Moscow.

After retiring from the Diplomatic Service, Philip became engaged in management consulting, concentrating on constraint management with specific focus on Critical Chain Execution Management, and community building and leadership within modern organisations. He has been involved with Critical Chain Execution Management for the last decade, participating internationally not only in implementations for large corporates such as BHP Billiton, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Intel, First Solar and DenelSaab but also for SME’s.

Philip lectured at post-graduate level at the University of Pretoria, where he presented the Critical Chain Project Management module of the Advanced Programme for Project Management (APPM). He also holds a BSc in Building Technology and a Masters in Business Leadership.

Stephen Sandler Director, Business Development

Steve has spent over 30 years in manufacturing, project management and delivery, and technology-based organisations. His experience spans the public and private sectors, in the oil & gas, mining & mineral processing, heavy industrial, power, water, transport, engineering and construction industries. He is fortunate to have worked in progressive organisations that are constantly looking to expand the boundaries of what is possible. These include ExxonMobil, Fluor, Honeywell, Jacobs and UGL, who in turn have delivered industry-leading solutions to a wide range of customers including BHP Billiton, Santos, AusNet Services, CSL, and Shell. Steve has held a number of senior business development executive roles providing him with valuable insights on how to understand his customers’ goals and ambitions, and most importantly the ability to jointly realise them. He is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and holds an MBA and Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical)(Honours).
